TrustID solution receives FOPH certification for secure access to the electronic patient record

09.03.2020

trustID, the electronic identity product (eID) developed by CloudTrust - an ELCA company, has been certified by the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH).

ELCA is therefore the first private Swiss IT group to offer an independent and fully Swiss platform that guarantees the strict confidentiality of personal data.

trustID is also the first identity provider (IdP) to provide patients and medical experts with the same solution.

Even the healthcare world is not immune to digitalisation. In particular, it makes it possible to bring together patient data in a single electronic file (the electronic patient record), improving the efficiency, speed and quality of treatment for all concerned. This means patients can be better cared for, costs can be better controlled, and lives can even be saved. The law stipulates that, from April 2020, the management of electronic patient records must include a secure digital identifier. It is against this backdrop that the ELCA Group has today announced that trustID has gained FOPH certification.

trustID is a progressive technological identity management solution that has been fully developed in Switzerland. It is based on open-source architecture that ensures full data processing transparency. CloudTrust - an ELCA company is ensuring that personal and confidential data really does belong to citizens. trustID guarantees the total protection of personal data. There are no cross-references between the technological solution itself and the content for which it is the key.

trustID has already been chosen by several cantons, institutions and core communities for the care of patients and people working in the healthcare sector. trustID is also being used by Abilis, the new digital healthcare platform that was recently launched by OFAC (the Swiss pharmacists’ association) , and that will host electronic patient records from spring 2020. This platform, which is aimed at healthcare professionals and also the general public and offers a wide range of services, is intended to become a national reference for medication and digital healthcare.

trustID has been developed entirely within Switzerland by the ELCA Group's specialist engineering team, and benefits from their many years of experience in the field of identity management. Public institutions and businesses are already using the solution in various sectors. The strategic decision taken by the ELCA Group to get trustID certified for the healthcare sector, which demands particularly high quality and safety standards, sends a strong signal to users. To date, it is the only official certification of an independent IdP solution in Switzerland.
